A Quick Update

Thanks everyone for the great feedback on the all-new Things – this has been a fantastic launch! It’s extremely busy here in Stuttgart, but we wanted to quickly send out an update on the latest news.

App Store Response

We’re delighted to see that Things is receiving solid 5 star reviews in the App Store – the response has been fantastic! The Mac app also reached #1 in Top Paid, and even unseated Final Cut & Logic in many countries to claim #1 in Top Grossing. Thank you for purchasing Things and supporting its development!

Inbox 10,000

We’ve received over 10,000 inquiries with comments, questions, feature requests, etc. and we’re working around the clock to get back to you all. Currently, our support team (and our coders!) are answering emails that came in 5 days ago, so please hang in there :)

Price & Discount

Since there are still so many support questions in our queue, we’ve decided to extend our 20% launch discount until June 1st. This gives us more time to respond to questions, and gives you more time to evaluate the apps. If you plan to upgrade from Things 2, this is the best time to do it.

Also, please note that you don’t need to do anything to get the discount – the price you see in the App Store already has the discount applied. See this page for more info.

Importing From Other Apps

  • Wunderlist: If you’re coming from Wunderlist, you can easily import your to-dos.
  • OmniFocus: You can migrate from OmniFocus via our AppleScript importer. There was a bug in the script that is now fixed.

Repeating To-Dos in Projects

Things allows you to create repeating to-dos, but there has always been one limitation: it wasn’t possible to have them inside of projects. Many people have written in asking for this, so we’re going to add this option. We’re working on it now and it will be released in an update soon.

Thanks again for all your feedback everyone!

Meet the All-New Things

It’s here! We’ve been working hard on a completely new version of Things for the past years and we’re incredibly proud and excited to finally show it to all of you.

Let’s get right down to the details – we have a lot for you to explore!

  • Watch the app introduction video above.
  • Read all about what’s new in the apps.
  • Get useful tips and insights on how to use the apps on our updated support page.
  • On the Mac, you can download the trial and take it for a spin.
  • And of course, check out our App Store pages (Mac, iPhone, iPad).

When you first open the apps, they will ask you whether to create a tutorial project. Be sure to answer "Yes" on each device, as there’s some great info in there for you.

For everyone who’s currently using Things 2 and wants to upgrade, we’ve decided to put up a 20% discount on all apps until May 26th June 1st. (So $40 instead of $50 on the Mac, etc.). Due to the way the App Store works, everyone can take advantage of this – so make sure you don’t miss it!

If you like the music of our video, you can find it on iTunes.

I want to thank the entire team for their incredible work over the years. It took excellence, persistence, and determination to get here, and I’m proud of what we’ve been able to do together.

Finally, everyone here at Things wants to extend their thanks to all of you for your support over the years. It means a lot to us! We hope you’re going to enjoy the all-new Things. Please let us know what you think!

When?

Things 3 Is Coming

We’re very excited to report that Things 3 is almost ready for release. After a final round of beta testing, we expect to ship in May.

Things 3 Is Coming

Beta

A little over a month ago, we quietly took a big step. Things 3 was nearing completion so we expanded our beta from a handful of testers to more than 100 people. This has been going extremely well, and the feedback we’ve received is simply fantastic we’ve gotten so many great responses that we just had to share some of them :) Thanks, everyone!

Today, we’re expanding the beta further to include all existing Things 2 beta testers. We also have another 100 open seats, so if you’d like participate, you can apply here.

Release Plan

At this point, we’re very confident about the stability of the apps. We think we need approximately four more weeks to add the finishing touches. Together with other release preparations, that means we expect to ship sometime in May. We’ll post an exact date as soon as we have one.

“Finally!”

Indeed! If you’ve been following our efforts, you’ll know that getting here has taken us longer than we originally thought. For Things 3, we ended up completely rewriting the apps on all platforms as well as adding and refining the new features. At the same time, we kept Things 2 up-to-date and added new features there as well (extensions, Watch app, push sync, etc.). We’ve learned a lot through this process, and there’s quite a bit more we could talk about – but for now, we’re focused on the coming release.

Pricing

Things 3 will be released as three separate apps in the App Store and we’re keeping the current pricing. This will also be our first paid update (since 1.0!) for existing users. During launch week, we’ll have a 20% discount on the apps – make sure you sign up for our newsletter so you don’t miss it!

Thanks everyone for your patience. We’ve put a lot of hard work and passion into making Things 3 the best personal task manager available. We’re incredibly excited about the result, and cannot wait to hear what you think.
