Here’s how to completely uninstall Things from your Mac and remove all related files.
If any of the files or folders mentioned below aren’t present on your Mac, you can safely skip ahead to the next step.
If you’re uninstalling the beta version of Things, the file paths below will be slightly different. Instead of com.culturedcode.ThingsMac
, the paths will be com.culturedcode.ThingsMac.beta
.
1. Quit Things and all related processes
- On your Mac, quit Things.
- In Finder, go to
/Applications/Utilities
and open Activity Monitor - If Things Sandbox Helper is running, select it and click the x button in the toolbar to quit it.
2. Delete the app
- Click the Finder in your Dock.
- Go to the menu bar at the top of your screen and click Go > Applications.
- Delete Things.
3. Delete all Things-related files
macOS 10.11 Big Sur
- Click the Finder in your Dock.
- Go to the menu bar at the top of your screen, press and hold the ⌥ Alt key, and click Go > Library
- Enter the
Group Containers
folder and delete the folder:JLMPQHK86H.com.culturedcode.ThingsMac
- Click the < button in the toolbar.
- Enter the
Application Support
folder and delete the folders:Cultured Code
, andThings Sandbox Helper
- Click the < button in the toolbar.
- Enter the
Containers
folder and delete the folders:Add to Things
Things
ThingsIntentsExtension
ThingsWidgetExtension
- Click the < button in the toolbar.
- Enter the
Caches
folder and delete thecom.culturedcode.ThingsMac
folder. - While you’re still in the
Caches
folder, enter thecom.plausiblelabs.crashreporter.data
folder and delete thecom.culturedcode.ThingsMac
folder. - Click the < button in the toolbar twice.
- If you used the trial version, enter the
Preferences
folder and delete the filecom.culturedcode.ThingsMac.plist
macOS 10.15 and older
- Click the Finder in your Dock.
- Go to the menu bar at the top of your screen, press and hold the ⌥ Alt key, and click Go > Library
- Enter the
Group Containers
folder and delete the folder:JLMPQHK86H.com.culturedcode.ThingsMac
- Click the < button in the toolbar.
- Enter the
Application Support
folder and delete the folders:Cultured Code
, andThings Sandbox Helper
- Click the < button in the toolbar.
- Enter the
Containers
folder and delete the folders:com.culturedcode.ThingsMac
,com.culturedcode.ThingsMac.ActionExtension
,com.culturedcode.ThingsMac.IntentsExtension
,com.culturedcode.ThingsMac.ShareExtension

- Click the < button in the toolbar.
- Enter the
Caches
folder and delete thecom.culturedcode.ThingsMac
folder. - While you’re still in the
Caches
folder, enter thecom.plausiblelabs.crashreporter.data
folder and delete thecom.culturedcode.ThingsMac
folder. - Click the < button in the toolbar twice.
- If you used the trial version, enter the
Preferences
folder and delete the filecom.culturedcode.ThingsMac.plist
4. Hide Service Menu Entries
Your Services menu may still contain entries from Things (“New To-do Containing…”). You can’t delete them, but you can hide them. Here’s how:
- Open System Preferences.
- Click Keyboard > Shortcuts > Services.
- Find and uncheck the entries for Things.
5. Reboot Your Mac
To complete the uninstall, reboot your Mac.
