Here’s how to completely uninstall Things from your Mac and remove all related files.
If you also want to delete your Things Cloud account, please follow these steps before removing the app.
1. Quit Things and all related processes
- On your Mac, quit Things.
- In Finder, go to
/Applications/Utilitiesand open Activity Monitor - If Things Helper is running, select it, then click the ✗ button in the toolbar to stop the process.
2. Delete the app
- Click the Finder in your Dock.
- Go to the menu bar at the top of your screen and click Go → Applications.
- Delete Things.
3. Delete all Things-related files
If any of the files or folders mentioned below aren’t present on your Mac, you can safely skip ahead to the next step.
macOS 11 +
- Click the Finder in your Dock.
- Go to the menu bar at the top of your screen, press and hold the ⌥ Alt key, and click Go → Library.
- Enter the
Group Containersfolder and delete theJLMPQHK86H.com.culturedcode.ThingsMacfolder (this will delete your to-dos, so first create a copy if you need a backup). - Navigate back to the Library folder.
- Enter the
Application Supportfolder and delete the folders:Cultured CodeThings Sandbox Helper
- Navigate back to the Library folder.
- Enter the
Containersfolder and delete these folders:Add to ThingsThingsThingsIntentsExtensionThingsWidgetExtension
- Navigate back to the Library folder.
- Enter the
Cachesfolder and delete thecom.culturedcode.ThingsMacfolder. - While you’re still in the
Cachesfolder, enter thecom.plausiblelabs.crashreporter.datafolder and delete thecom.culturedcode.ThingsMacfolder. - If you used the trial version, enter the
/Library/Preferencesfolder and delete thecom.culturedcode.ThingsMac.plistfile.
Older macOS Versions
- Click the Finder in your Dock.
- Go to the menu bar at the top of your screen, press and hold the ⌥ Alt key, and click Go → Library.
- Enter the
Group Containersfolder and delete the folder:JLMPQHK86H.com.culturedcode.ThingsMac - Click the < button in the toolbar.
- Enter the
Application Supportfolder and delete the folders:Cultured CodeThings Sandbox Helper
- Click the < button in the toolbar.
- Enter the
Containersfolder and delete the folders:com.culturedcode.ThingsMaccom.culturedcode.ThingsMac.ActionExtensioncom.culturedcode.ThingsMac.IntentsExtensioncom.culturedcode.ThingsMac.ShareExtensioncom.culturedcode.ThingsMac.TodayWidget
- Click the < button in the toolbar.
- Enter the
Cachesfolder and delete thecom.culturedcode.ThingsMacfolder. - While you’re still in the
Cachesfolder, enter thecom.plausiblelabs.crashreporter.datafolder and delete thecom.culturedcode.ThingsMacfolder. - Click the < button in the toolbar twice.
- If you used the trial version, enter the
Preferencesfolder and delete the filecom.culturedcode.ThingsMac.plist
4. Hide Service Menu Entries
Your Services menu may still contain entries from Things (e.g. “Add to Things”). You can’t delete these, but you can hide them. Here’s how:
- Open System Settings.
- On macOS 13 or later, go to System Settings → Keyboard and click Keyboard Shortcuts.
- On macOS 12 or earlier, go to System Preferences → Keyboard and click Shortcuts.
- Find Services and click it.
- Find and uncheck any entries for Things.
5. Reboot Your Mac
To complete the uninstall, reboot your Mac.
