Here’s how to completely uninstall Things from your Mac and remove all related files.

If you also want to delete your Things Cloud account, please follow these steps before removing the app.

  1. On your Mac, quit Things.
  2. In Finder, go to /Applications/Utilities and open Activity Monitor
  3. If Things Helper is running, select it, then click the ✗ button in the toolbar to stop the process.

2. Delete the app

  1. Click the Finder in your Dock.
  2. Go to the menu bar at the top of your screen and click Go → Applications.
  3. Delete Things.

If any of the files or folders mentioned below aren’t present on your Mac, you can safely skip ahead to the next step.

macOS 11 +
  1. Click the Finder in your Dock.
  2. Go to the menu bar at the top of your screen, press and hold the ⌥ Alt key, and click Go → Library.
  3. Enter the Group Containers folder and delete the JLMPQHK86H.com.culturedcode.ThingsMac folder (this will delete your to-dos, so first create a copy if you need a backup).
  4. Navigate back to the Library folder.
  5. Enter the Application Support folder and delete the folders:
    1. Cultured Code
    2. Things Sandbox Helper
  6. Navigate back to the Library folder.
  7. Enter the Containers folder and delete these folders:
    1. Add to Things
    2. Things
    3. ThingsIntentsExtension
    4. ThingsWidgetExtension
  8. Navigate back to the Library folder.
  9. Enter the Caches folder and delete the com.culturedcode.ThingsMac folder.
  10. While you’re still in the Caches folder, enter the com.plausiblelabs.crashreporter.data folder and delete the com.culturedcode.ThingsMac folder.
  11. If you used the trial version, enter the /Library/Preferences folder and delete the com.culturedcode.ThingsMac.plist file.
Older macOS Versions
  1. Click the Finder in your Dock.
  2. Go to the menu bar at the top of your screen, press and hold the ⌥ Alt key, and click Go → Library.
  3. Enter the Group Containers folder and delete the folder: JLMPQHK86H.com.culturedcode.ThingsMac
  4. Click the < button in the toolbar.
  5. Enter the Application Support folder and delete the folders:
    1. Cultured Code
    2. Things Sandbox Helper
  6. Click the < button in the toolbar.
  7. Enter the Containers folder and delete the folders:
    1. com.culturedcode.ThingsMac
    2. com.culturedcode.ThingsMac.ActionExtension
    3. com.culturedcode.ThingsMac.IntentsExtension
    4. com.culturedcode.ThingsMac.ShareExtension
    5. com.culturedcode.ThingsMac.TodayWidget
  8. Click the < button in the toolbar.
  9. Enter the Caches folder and delete the com.culturedcode.ThingsMac folder.
  10. While you’re still in the Caches folder, enter the com.plausiblelabs.crashreporter.data folder and delete the com.culturedcode.ThingsMac folder.
  11. Click the < button in the toolbar twice.
  12. If you used the trial version, enter the Preferences folder and delete the file com.culturedcode.ThingsMac.plist

4. Hide Service Menu Entries

Your Services menu may still contain entries from Things (e.g. “Add to Things”). You can’t delete these, but you can hide them. Here’s how:

  1. Open System Settings.
    • On macOS 13 or later, go to System Settings → Keyboard and click Keyboard Shortcuts.
    • On macOS 12 or earlier, go to System Preferences → Keyboard and click Shortcuts.
  2. Find Services and click it.
  3. Find and uncheck any entries for Things.

5. Reboot Your Mac

To complete the uninstall, reboot your Mac.
