Yes, we took the plunge. After sending out private alpha invitations to more than 19,000 newsletter subscribers, Things is now publicly available. And the inevitable did happen, we are now even more behind in replying to your email messages. Our apologies to everyone still waiting. We will catch up, promised!

Huge thanks to everyone who has contributed with feature request, bug reports, or simply by being encouraging and nice. One user even summed up her experience with Things by writing a fictional dialog between herself and Things (thanks Janice :)).

Things will be free until its final release in spring. Everyone interested in buying Things should subscribe to our newsletter before January 31. This way you will receive a 20% discount and be able to buy Things at $ 39 once it is released.

We encourage everyone to actively participate in the ongoing development process. You can read our development blog, contribute to our wiki, or discuss Things in our upcoming forum.

Finally! This has taken us much longer than anticipated. But now our preview version of Things is ready. We are sending out invites starting today and will have provided our 10.000+ subscribers with a preview of Things by Christmas.

Why has the alpha taken so long? As we put it recently in an interview on edit.xtreem.iappblog.com: “We worked incredibly hard to make it simple. I cannot remember how often we revised it significantly, even completely starting all over again.” Indeed, we didn’t pile feature upon feature, but instead worked hard on constantly revising the fundamental approach to make it simple without compromising scalability.

Ian Beck from tagamac.com created a wonderful screencast of Things. Watch his screencast and take a look at some of the initial responses of other alpha testers.

And if you are wondering what Things will cost when it is finished? We cannot be too specific right now, but suffice it to say that it will compare favorably to some recently announced prices from our competition ;-). Introductory pricing? You bet!
