Working with Projects (FAQ)

Contents

Rearranging projects

You can drag‑drop your projects in the Projects list or directly within the sidebar to reorder them.

Please note that if you have organized your Projects into Areas, you cannot reorder your Projects across different areas in the sidebar. They must stay sorted by Area. For example, moving the last Project to the top might not be possible.

To better understand why, please have a look at your Projects list. Here you can see the Area headlines.

Deleting projects

  1. Select Projects in the sidebar. A list of all your projects is displayed on the right side.
  2. Select the Project you want to delete.
  3. Use ⌫, or drag the project to the Trash. (You can also right-click on the project in the sidebar and choose "Delete Project".)

Sub-projects?

Creating sub-projects is not possible yet. But we'll definitely add more structure to projects.

What you can already do:
Have you tried Areas yet? You could put your projects into different areas if you need more structure.

See I don't understand Areas (FAQ) and When to Use Tags, Projects, or Areas of Responsibility.

Repeating projects?

To turn an existing project into a repeating one:

  1. Click on the Projects focus in the sidebar. A list of all your projects is displayed on the right side.
  2. Select a project from the list.
  3. Use the menu “Items → Make Repeating…” (or ⌘⌥R).

??? This did not work for me. That option is greyed out—any suggestions?

Project templates?

Project templates are not yet supported. However, there is a workaround for that missing feature:

  1. Create the project.
  2. Then set it to inactive so it disappears from your active lists (see next topic).
  3. Whenever you need a copy from that template, select it, duplicate it (⌘D), and set it to active (or drag it to the Next list).

You could use a "template" tag to help locating them later on. (Thanks to AmberV.)

How can I set a project to inactive?

Todos from inactive projects are no longer displayed in the Next list. There are basically two ways to set a project to inactive:

  1. Select the Projects list in the sidebar. A list of all your projects is displayed on the right side. Select a project and use the Inactive button in the toolbar.
  2. Or, simply drag a project from the sidebar onto the Someday or Scheduled list.
