Syncing Things on multiple Macs (FAQ)

Syncing Things' library among different Macs is an important feature for many users. Until we have implemented this feature, the following information might be helpful.

Choosing a custom location for the library

By default Things stores your library here:
<home>/Library/Application Support/Cultured Code/

But you can change that location. When holding down the option/alt key while opening Things, a dialog will be displayed that lets you either create a new Things library or choose an existing one. (This feature is practically identical to a similar one in iTunes.)

This way you can choose a location that might be more convenient for your syncing and backup routine. Choosing a web based location like iDisk is not possible.

Using a portable drive

You can store your library on a USB flash drive and carry it with you. Plug in a portable drive and move your Things library from its default location (see above) to that drive. Move the entire Things folder and don’t forget to quit Things first!

The next time you open Things, it will ask you for the new location.

Please make sure to make regular backups, as portable flash drives can get corrupted (like any other storage device).
