Using Drag & Drop on iPad

Use drag & drop to share content into Things from other apps on your iPad while in Slide Over or Split View.

If you have Things open beside Mail on your iPad, you can drag an email and drop it into Things. Things will create a new to-do and insert a link back to the email for you so you can find it again later. You can also drop the email into the notes of an existing to do.

Try it out:

  1. On your iPad, open the Mail app.
  2. Open Things in Split View or Slide Over mode.
  3. From your list of emails, drag an email across your screen and drop it into Things.

Since Things now has a link to the email, you can archive the email to keep your mailbox tidy.

With drag and drop, you can now quickly add multiple links and even selected text to an existing to-do, for example when you're researching something and want to reference your findings later.

Add a location from Maps

If you need to reference a map location later, just drop it into Things. Here’s how:

  1. On your iPad, open the Maps app.
  2. Open Things in Split View or Slide Over mode.
  3. Tap and hold your finger on the location’s marker, drag it across your screen, and drop it into Things.

Drag and drop is an iOS feature that must be supported by the app you are dragging content from. In other words, Things merely receives what’s sent to it. If you have trouble dragging content out of other apps – or if the content that ends up in Things isn’t what you want – you should contact the developer of the other app to make sure they provide full support for drag & drop.
