Backups and restoring backups (FAQ)

Contents

Backups

Things’ database is stored here:

<your home folder>/Library/Application Support/Cultured Code/Things/database.xml

Note: If you’ve chosen a custom location, you should look for the database in the custom location instead.

As with any digital data, we recommend regular backups of your database. You can manually copy that folder to your backup disk, or use Time Machine or another application that automatically backs up your home folder.

Restoring Backups

  1. Quit Things if it is open. The application must not be running.
    1. If you’re syncing with Things on your iPhone or iPod Touch, please reinstall Things on your iPhone or iPod Touch .
  2. Copy your backup database to its original location. The database.xml file should be placed in <your home folder>/Library/Application Support/Cultured Code/Things/
  3. Launch Things
    1. Set up syncing with your iPhone or iPod Touch again

Automatic backups

Things automatically keeps copies of your database for the last ten days. This allows you to go back to an earlier version of your database. These automatic backups are stored here:

<your home folder>/Library/Application Support/Cultured Code/Things/Backups

Note: These automatic backups are not a replacement for a backup on another disk in case of a hard disk problem since they are stored on the same disk!
