Cultured Communication

Hello, I’m Michael!

cc-michael.png

Allow me to express my gratitude to my new team for inviting me to come along for the ride. This is much more than a job to me – it’s an opportunity to be part of something special. And no, they didn’t pay me to say any of this – I already got the job. ;)

Cultured Code invited me to head up marketing, business development, and communication. Things is an amazing product, and I am excited to be part of its future development.

What amazes me even more than Things itself is the community that has developed around it. In the past few days, I’ve been busy reading previous blog posts, tweets, and forum entries. With communication at the core of my responsibilities, I am very much looking forward to taking part in future discussions!

Over the next few months leading up to the release of Things 1.0 at Macworld Expo 2009, more details will be revealed on our blog and Twitter feed, so stay tuned.

Its great to see some one in this roll. It should help the company grow tremendously as well as let the lads concentrate on what’s important :)

    Good to have you, Michael!
Sometimes we felt a bit lonely in the forums, and I’m looking forward to a more constant feedback from the devs.
    Willkommen im Team!

    Welcome aboard.

Hey, your twitter feed used to cover important stuff like releases, news and new blog items. Now you are talking about bugs as you fix them. Too much information.

  10. Giuseppe Caruso Oct 08, 2008

Really did you read all that stuff…?
I understand, now, your small eyes in the picture…

    Welcome Michael! ;)

All the best with the new position. Can’t wait to see what your developers come up with now that they’ll have some more time on their hands : )

Great to see a Communications guy on board… so are there any hidden surprises for the next release?

    Welcome, Michael!

Two very practical issues for you!

    a) The TD bug reporting function is crucial for developers. But we don’t know if it really works, since we don’t receive anymore any feedback when we report bugs. Times ago, the developers said the server had a problem. So now, to our knowledge, bug reports may just arrive nowhere, and people are not encouraged to send them. It’s very simple: at least, send back a simple automatic mail telling that the issue has been taken into account.

    b) What is the way of reporting bugs for Things Touch?

    Thanks a lot!

  16. Michael Oct 09, 2008

@iuko: Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it!

I agree with issue “a”, and I’ve already started working with the team to correct this. An email auto-responder confirming submissions via TD will be implemented in the next day or two.

As for “b”, you can report bugs via the Things for iPhone and iPod touch support web page here: http://culturedcode.com/things/iphone/support.html

Congrats Michael & welcome! Have interesting and challenging days/months/years to come ;)

Looking forward to seeing the communication of CC skyrocketing!

    Cheers

I love reading all the tweets about bug fixes and progress made, it is NOT too much information.

  19. crazypants Oct 09, 2008

The twitter stuff is fine as long as it isn’t “fixed five bugs” but it says what bug was fixed. Then you know ahead of time if the next version will fix a problem you have been having. Apple is notorious for software updates that are general “Bug fixes”.

Michael, you will be a strong asset to this team, and I am looking forward to the resulting success to come from the entire team’s hard work!

Hi Mike! Looking forward to your contributions to the team!

  22. hstracker Oct 10, 2008

    I’ll be ordering (I hope) 50 copies :-)

  23. hstracker Oct 10, 2008

Oops, wrong topic – welcome Michael, have fun.

    Hello Michael,
**** to b): You can report bugs via the Things for iPhone and iPod touch support web page here: http://culturedcode.com/things/iphone/support.html ****
I think for the TT there should be a way like this:
Create a screenshot out of TT and create a email w/h that Screenshot out of TT and get the poss to add text to write the prob.
This automatically workflow in the prog of TT will bring quick and excellent feedback to you all at CC.
    Think about it 8-)

Great to have you there. I am always eager to read stuff from Cultured Code. It’s becoming a great Lovemark of mine. When the teamwork sync will be possible our company will buy Things for all their employees. It’s awesome!

  26. Helmut Oct 10, 2008

    Welcome!
I really hope you guys will submit a new iPhone version to the App store. I’m getting annoyed at all the Due Date bugs cropping up in the current version (ie, record changes not sticking, etc.)

  27. Debbie Ohi Oct 18, 2008

Things is -such- a great product (as a freelance writer, I cringe at the grammatical horror of what I just typed but hey), but they’ve seriously needed help in the marketing and communications areas.

Good luck! We’re all rooting for you. Or at least I am. :-)

  28. Debbie Ohi Oct 18, 2008

Oops sorry. Typed “Yay Michael” instead of my web address.

  29. Jacob Oct 30, 2008

It seems like you guys are communicating less now, even though you’ve hired a communications guy. What gives?

  30. Ken Nov 01, 2008

Yeah. Seriously. I see there is a 0.9.6 update coming out soon, but I have no idea what we can even expect from it because we don’t get updates anymore. Even after hiring the communications guy… sigh.

  31. Michael Nov 03, 2008

@Jacob @Ken: Communication is more than simply saying something for the sake of saying something — it needs to be vital, substantial, and beneficial.

You may want to follow our Twitter feed. We post more frequent updates here, including development information for Things.

Rest assured, we’re working very hard on Things 1.0 for its release at Macworld Expo 2009. When there are pieces of information worthy of communicating, we’ll continue to do so via our blog and our Twitter feed.
