22 days since the last blog post — how could that happen? Well, let’s face it, we got a bit carried away with working on Things. That both our coders got sick a week ago certainly didn’t help. Neither did those hard to track bugs in Tiger that required a workaround…
But we promise to be good boys now! Oh, and thanks for all the nice comments! Expect to find more specific replies here soon.
Right now we are working very hard to integrate recurring tasks into Things. And not just any recurring tasks…
Thank you all for your great support.
Pinging is currently not allowed.
Things is already in very good shape, so there’s no reason to apologise for being sick. Looking forward to being reminded to put the bin out every Monday.
Good to know you “back” :)
Any ETA for a new build?
Greetings
how close are we to a 1.0 release? do you have a date set?
and will the purchase of Things include all 1.x updates at no charge? or will there be a year of free updates? ie(how does your upgrade system work?)
nice work though guys, keep it up!
Great news! I’m eagerly waiting to see how Things matures on it’s journey to 1.0; so far I must say it is mighty impressive - it has managed to handle my many, many, tasks and projects at least!
Welcome back to the grind. Sickness is, of course, unpredictable and allowances have to be made. Plus it’s a beginning of a new year, so you’re allowed a slow start. NOW, back to the grindstone…!!!! Lashhhhh….. Swishhhhhh….. (hear the sound of a whip..!!!!) Just kidding…
BTW, hopefully you’re working on more than recurring items (although that’s useful). Can you publish a short list of the big categories you’re pushing on for next point release… I’m curious to see which of my interests are there, and I’m sure others are too. For instance, syncing with iCal is very big for me, and probably the one thing I miss from O***F***s…!!!
Welcome back to health, and hopefully the working schedule isn’t wearing you down. It may be 22 days since the last post, but Things has been helping me every one of those days. This alpha is better than most betas, and some 1.0 releases. Keep up the great work, I’m looking forward to what comes next.
thanks for the post! I was getting a bit worried about the prolonged silence, as I’ve become quite attached to Things. It’s the best and most flexible personal task manager I’ve used (and I’ve used many). I am glad that development is still going strong and looking forward to using (and purchasing) v1.0.
Recurring tasks is what I’m looking for… Right now my “Today” is cluttered with daily/weekly tasks I can’t check as done, to remember them :D
Thanks for the update! I just figured you were busy working on some big new features (iCal sync…? ;-) I hope everyone is feeling better now. I’ll echo what others have said - Things is in very good shape already, and it can only get better. It’s an integral part of my daily workflow.
Keep up the good work!
@patrick: We think it will be out in a week. Let’s hope the code is with us.
@vandozza: we haven’t yet settled on a policy for that - first things first. 1.x updates for free is pretty reasonable though.
@naseer: The most requested features other than recurring tasks are Syncing with iCal, iPhone integration and .Mac support. They won’t come in the next release, but you can guess what we will be working on next :)
I really don’t understand, why recurring tasks are so important. That’s a lot of functionality for what is basically nothing else than a predefined “postpone x days” command, whenever finished instead of completing (which is btw much more flexible). Works like a charm.
Just one minor request: when you add recurring tasks, it would be nice if you could add tasks of the form “on the last day of every month.” OmniFocus doesn’t allow these kinds of tasks (the best you can do in that program is schedule the task for the 28th of the current month and then have it repeat monthly, even though some months are longer). I think this kind of repetition is very common, for instance many renters pay their rent on the last day of the month. (Also, Outlook and Entourage allow recurrences of this form.)
Thanks, Daniel, for posting the suggestion to achieve repeating tasks via the “postpone” feature–a great idea!
I wonder if THINGS needs a forum for users to swap ideas? It might take some of the heat off the developers and give them a little more time to…develop.

A forum would be great I think. OmniFocus got a lot of input form their forums, so I think Things will profit from it, too.
Greetings
@Alan: Yes we will have that. We will allow for even greater flexibility than iCal does (in iCal, choose “Custom…” for “Repeat”, to see what options they got).
@ds, @Patrick: We are working on a forum already :). It is the integration with the look and feel of our site which requires a little attention. But I guess we will go ahead, release it soon and improve later…
You know what they say, work as hard as you can until you see the bright white light at the end of the tunnel. Then STOP. We don’t want any employees dying on the job and hurting productivity!
But seriously, take a break. Don’t get sick!
And thanks so much for heeding our comments to you and adding the much needed recurring tasks.

Things is amazing already, but I can’t wait to see how it evolves in the future. iPhone support would be nice by June when I’ll probably get one down under :)
Hey guys,
nice job but i miss an iphone widget.
Best
