Cultured Code Releases Things 2.0 for Mac, iPad, iPhone; Introduces Things Cloud

STUTTGART, Germany — August 9, 2012 — Cultured Code today released Things 2.0, the delightful and easy to use task manager for Mac, iPad and iPhone. With various innovative new features and visual refinements, Things 2 includes Things Cloud, a new service that stores users' to-dos and automatically keeps them updated across all their devices. Today's releases are a major step forward for the award-winning Things platform.

Things Cloud

Things Cloud has been in private Beta since May 2011, and became a public Beta in February 2012. Cultured Code has continuously improved both Things Cloud and the Things clients during this time. By the end of beta, more than 30,000 users were already using the beta on a daily basis.

"The feedback we've received from our Things Cloud beta testers has been phenomenal," said Werner Jainek, CEO of Cultured Code. "Building our own cloud solution was quite an undertaking, but in the end, it has payed off. Things Cloud is very stable, and extremely fast - our users love it."

The previous way in which Things updated tasks across devices was by means of a local network Bonjour Sync. Speed comparisons with Things Cloud show improvements of up to 4x. All changes are sent to the server immediately over a secure SSL connection.

Things 2.0

In Things 2, the application cores have been re-engineered on all platforms for a blazingly fast Things Cloud performance.

"There's a reason Things Cloud is so fast", said Bartek Bargiel, lead developer for Things Cloud. "It has been developed hand in hand with our clients for all platforms. They are made for each other."

Things 2 also adds major workflow improvements on all platforms. A new Daily Review list lets users see all to-dos that have become due or are scheduled for today. It lets them decide whether to start them today, or postpone them until later.

Additional features in Things 2 for Mac include compatibility for OS X Mountain Lion, Sandbox compliance for enhanced OS X security, Retina graphics for the new MacBook Pro, Full-screen mode, reduced window chrome and new monochrome toolbar buttons, visual refinements for the Tags & Quick Entry windows, and a redesigned Reminders integration.

Things 2 for iPad, as well as Things 2 for iPhone also feature a completely new Scrolling Date Picker that makes selecting dates more natural than ever. Instead of splitting the calendar into months, the scrolling date picker combines them into a continuous stream. So the next few weeks are always just one tap away - and everything beyond, just a scroll. The iOS versions are now also completely accessible when using VoiceOver.

Finally, the iPhone version has received some great visual refinements, honing what was already an award-winning design.

"With Things 2 we wanted to give our iPhone UI some special treatment", said Christian Krämer, co-founder and Lead Designer at Cultured Code. "We selectively fine-tuned the application where it needed it most, and made some of the features more frictionless. The many subtle changes make for a delightful user experience."

Pricing & Availability

Things 2 is a free update for existing users on all platforms. Things 2 for Mac is available in the Mac App Store for $49.95 (US) and requires Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later. Things 2 for iPad and iPhone are also available in the iTunes App Store for $19.99 (US) and $9.99 (US) respectively. These updates require iOS 5 or later.

Cultured Code develops Things, the quintessential task manager for productive people. Over the past several years, the Things platform has undergone some major incremental improvements: In 2008, the iPhone version was released. In 2009, the Mac version was released, and in 2010, the iPad version was released. Things Cloud started as a beta in 2011 and culminated in today's release as the integral centerpiece in this award winning productivity suite.
