Xyle scope 1.2.1 available Main Xyle scope 1.2.2 available

Ever since we started Cultured Code, we had prototypes of to-do and note-taking applications around. But it was David Allen’s book “Getting Things Done” that finally helped us to envision what would become: Things. After expanding our team and many months of quiet work, we are now ready to give you a sneak peek at Things. Join us on our journey to create the easiest and most fun to use personal to-do management application. What do you like or dislike about other to-do list or Getting-Things-Done apps? Send us your feedback and make a difference!

  1. Things : The All New GTD App for Mac…

Ever since David Allen’s book on GTD (Getting things done) became extremely popular we have seen some of the best GTD Apps. We have seen desktop apps and web apps.. But one thing that caught my eye today was Things from Cultured Code. Things is …

  2. looks good. promising. looking forward to it.

  3. Well, at least we know the UI is tasty!

  4. First, gorgeous website… I love the simplicity of it. Easy on the eyes. :)

Second, Things looks like my dream to-do management app. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy run it through the ringer. The UI looks beautiful and simple! I also like that you don’t lock peoples data into Things. Can’t wait!

  5. I’ve been Alpha testing Omni Focus for a few weeks now and I’ve come to think that it’s near perfect in terms of GTD implementation… BUT… since Xyle is literally the most beautiful OS X app I”ve ever used, I am VERY intrigued to see what you have come up with… I signed up :) Hope to check it out soon!

  6. Very interested in this program-

I’m curious why you have “tags” and not “contexts”

I would also want to know if you will include the following features-

    - smart folders

    - sub folders

    - sub-projects

    - file attachments

    - integration with

    - quicksilver

    - email

    - paper(eg. print to index card)

    - ical

anyway things looks great, please release the beta soon

  7. We’re all waiting for the beta. It’s hard to be patient. These are things I’ve been looking for in a program for nearly a year, since I’ve discovered GTD. Please, please, please release the beta! I hope it isn’t taking so long because you’re bloating features (i.e., the post directly above me!)

  8. Jürgen from Cultured Code says:

Thanks for all the comments here and the many many feature requests we received by email! Let them coming, we are listening very carefully.

Mitch, feature bloat is not what is holding us up. We are instead working very hard to keep the interface as uncluttered as we possibly can. But without dumbing down the app either…

We hope to be able to publish some more news soon. Thanks for the patience everybody!

  9. I can’t wait to play with the beta.

After working with iGTD for a long time and then with OmniFocus, I am now back to Actiontastic for the simple reason that it is *not* bloated.

Looks like *Things* is going to end my search! :)

  10. I, too, am itching to get my hands on Things. I’ve been using iGTD for months and, while it’s great, am kind of tired of the interface clutter. I want something more elegantly Mac-like. OmniFocus is, sadly, somewhat of a mess. Things — at least so far as I can tell from the screen shots I’ve stared at to a rather unhealthy degree — will meet my needs exactly. So put out that beta soon, please.

  11. Like other posters, I’m chomping at the bit to get my hands on Things. I’ve used many different tools but this looks like my ideal.

Please release the beta soon! :) Making us wait 2 months is tanamount to torture!

  12. Funny, I didn’t see any “bloat” in Jame’s post, at least not for a GTD app. About the only thing I could see as “bloat” would be Quicksilver support as that relies on a third-party application, everything else would be the least I would expect from a Mac-based GTD application.

Feature bloat is a term made popular by the folks at 37Signals as a way to boost profits by making providing less seem cool. There is nothing wrong with providing more within a well designed interface (other than it takes more time and is therefore less profitable).

Things looks to me like it is on the right track. It looks like it is well on the way to providing an easy to use system that isn’t so dumbed down that it is unusable after two days of use.

  13. Wow, that looks just beautiful. Could you share any further progress or estimated street/beta dates with us?

  14. Would be great to get an update on progress!

  15. The anticipation is building! Things looks very promising and I am really looking forward to trying it out…

  16. Jürgen from Cultured Code says:

Super Nintendo Chalmers, Mike, Ryan, we are currently applying the finishing touches to a private alpha release, which we will then send to about a dozen brave testers. We will then decide, based on their feedback, when to release a preview version to the thousands of newsletter subscribers…

We are also working together with other blogs to provide a screencast of Things and an interview about our goals for it.

  17. Awesome! Looking forward to it! I’ve used OmniFocus but it doesn’t quite jive with my needs. This looks like a great app in the making.

  18. Looks very promising. I fell in love with the simplicity but great utility in Xyle Scope and I can wait to see that in a GTD app. I’ve used just about every PC or Mac app available for this and sill haven’t found one that fits my needs. Can’t wait for the Alpha/Beta :-)

  19. hurry up! things aren’t getting done here

    8-(

  20. This looks like the GTD app I’ve been waiting for. Simple and elegant.

I have loads of ideas that I need to brain-dump and gradually work into my next-actions list, as well as repeating events (a daily blog themes) and only occasional appointments.

  21. Great news! I agree with Mike - I’ve been using OmniFocus but it doesn’t quite fit my needs. It’s been back to my OmniOutliner doc for my everyday GTD management. Can’t wait for the beta…

  22. Thanks for keeping us eager fokes informed. I also can’t wait to try Things. I am pleased to hear there will be a screencast - I found that useful in getting up to speed with OmniFocus.

  23. hi, i seriously can not wait for this. must, play with, now… :p

  24. HURRY!!!!!

  25. Can’t wait to try it out. OmniFocus has been way too bloated and Things looks like it has just the right set of features.

The sooner you send us a preview, the happier we are :)

  26. Just a note to say thanks for working so hard on an application like this. There’s tons of competition, but as said before - many of us don’t like the competition.

Things is going to be great, keep up the good work!

  27. Ditto - looks like it’ll be great, but when? I’m gonna have to try OmniFocus in the meantime. Better hope I don’t like it too much to try Things!

  28. Looks very promising, hope to see some kind of quick type in (similar to the F-key tricks in iGTD), iCal syncing and AppleScript support. The missing Script support in iGTD is one of the things I don’t like about this otherwise not bad GTD app. Or if no AppleScript support will be available some kind of import feature for Journler (one of the best personal notes/journal app on the mac) would be great.

Anyway, very much looking forward to a beta release.

    Cheers

    SkyWombat

  29. Sorry, for yet another post.

What I just forgot in my “wishlist”. iCal support with due date&time syncing and alarm setting would be very neat.

    Keep up the work.

  30. Hi there,
nice to see there is a new one coming up with GTD and i it looks nice. But this is just a view, i must try it …
So many here say a lot of thoughts about other “things” (igtd, omni, kinkless), but i think you can’t test it for a week and say - it’s bad. Maybe i can say i don’t like (the Face), or i can’t understand the work with it, but to say the hole thing is bad is not possible, because it exists and for other people it works.
Kinkless starts with omnioutliner and scripts and it was bother for me to work with, but it was a good step, iGTD is a good step in the right way.
Omni Focus is a very strong Tool, because it combines a lot of Ideas, but i have to work with for understanding. And it has all the points from “James” and “SkyWombat” (above) - smart folders, sub folders, sub-projects, integration with quicksilver, email, paper(eg. print to index card) and sync with ical …
The important thing is you have to understand and use it!

Not least “Things” looks very good and i still wait for testing …

    V.

  31. Hi there,

    now LEOPARD is out!

Do you know the release date of your VERY INTERESTING peace of software?

Or at least a preview or beta?

  32. Put simply: When will you be releasing it - even the beta?

    and

I want to be able to email todo’s from wherever I am in the world and ensure that they are captured.
